A WEAK COLD FRONT AND AN APPROACHING DISTURBANCE MAY BRING A THUNDERSTORM TO SOME PARTS OF THE AREA ON SUNDAY… THE UPCOMING WEEK STARTS OFF NICE AND A RETURN OF HUMIDITY IS LIKELY BY MID-WEEK

A disturbance rotating around the upper low to our north and a cold front will move into the area on Sunday. This could spark a thunderstorm in some spots on Sunday. Forecasters aren’t sure about the coverage or intensity of the storms that may develop on Sunday. There is also a chance, albeit slight, that some storms may become severe, so please, stay tuned. There has been a large rotating upper-level low pressure system to our north the past several days. This low will slowly move to the east over the next few days. High pressure should build back in on Monday so things should settle down as we return to work. There may be a shower early Monday in some of the coastal regions. Higher humidity levels are expected as we progress through the week with a chance of an isolated shower or thunderstorm each afternoon beginning Wednesday. All in all, I don’t see anything unusual this week for the middle of August. No temperature extremes are expected at this time.
The tropics are quiet for now, but we are entering the period when things usually pick up. The Cape Verde season will soon be upon us so we will have to watch the tropical waves moving off the African coast much more closely. These are the long-tracked storms that develop in the Eastern or Central Atlantic. These storms many times become major hurricanes.

** In the event of severe weather in you area, please consult the official National Weather Service forecast office for any severe weather watches or warnings in your area at Weather.gov.
