MILDER WEATHER MOVES BACK INTO THE MID-ATLANTIC STATES THIS WEEKEND… SATURDAY LOOKS GREAT FOR LATE JANUARY… SUNDAY WILL BE WET AND THE WET WEATHER MAY LINGER INTO MONDAY… WILL WE SEE THE WHITE STUFF ON TUESDAY?

The combination of high pressure moving offshore and an approaching cold front is pumping in mild air from the south on this Saturday. Temperatures should peak around 60 degrees. Clouds will slowly be increasing later Saturday. Showers begin to move into SE VA later Saturday night. Showers become widespread on Sunday and some moderate to heavy rainfall is possible in some locations, especially as we head into Sunday night. Low pressure is expected to develop to our south and west and move up along the cold front that will be slowly moving offshore. It slowly dries out on Monday, but the slow moving system may keep it wet during the morning hours. Then, as colder air moves in later Monday and Tuesday, an upper-level system may bring snow showers to the region on Tuesday. Accumulations are possible, but it is too early to nail down any specifics. At the present time, it looks like a minor snow event but with temperatures in the low to mid thirties, any snow that falls may stick. As we know, it doesn’t take a heavy snowfall here in Hampton Roads to create issues on our area roadways. So, monitor the situation as it gets closer. Rainfall amounts are expected to be one to two inches Sunday through Monday. After the cold spell early next week, temperatures are expected to get milder later in the week. However, another Arctic air mass may affect our region next weekend. The front may bring more precipitation next Friday or Saturday. That’s it for now. Have a great weekend!
