TWO INCHES OF RAIN FALL OVERNIGHT IN PARTS OF VIRGINIA BEACH… OUR STRING OF NEARLY PERFECT WEEKENDS ENDS… SUMMER HAS OFFICIALLY ARRIVED

A stationary front to our south combined with low pressure developing and disturbances in the upper-atmosphere brought very heavy rainfall to my Virginia Beach neighborhood overnight. My rain gauge recorded exactly two inches of rain. Thursday’s violent thunderstorm dumped over an inch of rain in my neighborhood. We may see additional rainfall today (Saturday) but according to the NWS, areas to our south will see the best chance of thunderstorms and severe weather. This brings to an end the extraordinary string of nearly perfect weekends. Meteorologists are forecasting better weather on Sunday with pleasant temperatures. Then, it looks like we slowly heat up again next week. Rain chances are expected to increase later next week… Summer arrived this morning, which means that the sun’s direct rays are the farthest north reaching the Tropic of Cancer. Soon, the days will be getting shorter again but it starts slowly at first and then accelerates as we move through the summer. That’s it for now. Have a great day!
