TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED TO BE ABOVE NORMAL ON THURSDAY… THE FORECAST FOR THE WEEKEND IS A BIT UNCERTAIN, ESPECIALLY SUNDAY, MOTHER’S DAY… NEXT WEEK MAY BE UNSETTLED WITH RAIN CHANCES INCREASING

There has been a stationary front to our southwest for the past couple of days. This front separates much warmer air from the cool air mass that has been over our region keeping our temperatures below normal for most of Hampton Roads. (The normal high temperature is 73 degrees).  This is the same frontal boundary that helped trigger the thunderstorms Monday night that contained hail. Things are about to change as forecasters are predicting the front to start moving northeastward as a warm front. Temperatures on Thursday are expected to be well above normal possibly approaching the 90 degree mark well inland. On Friday and Saturday, the temperature forecast gets a bit tricky as a lot will depend on the wind direction and cloud cover. Keep in mind that the ocean and bay temperature is still rather cool so if the wind blows from the water, temperatures can be much cooler. (See my Weather Facts on Sea Breezes and Back Door Cold Fronts). Once we get to Mother’s Day, the forecast is even more uncertain as forecasters aren’t sure right now whether there will be showers and thunderstorms from a system to our west that will be slowly approaching our region. Next week might be on the wet side as long range computer models are indicating that we may have several days of showers and thunderstorms. That’s it for now. Have a great day!
