THE WEATHER THIS WEEKEND WILL BE VERY NICE WITH PLENTY OF SUNSHINE… TEMPERATURES WILL TREND DOWNWARD LATER THIS WEEK

Yesterday (Friday), Norfolk International Airport recorded a record high temperature of 79 degrees! That was before the line of thunderstorms moved through. Virginia Beach picked up a little over a half inch of rain and there was more in some isolated spots. No tornadoes were reported here locally but out to our west severe weather did cause some damage. The weather this weekend will be tranquil in comparison. We should have lots of sunshine and pleasant temperatures for this time of year. The low pressure system that caused blizzard conditions in the Northern Plains states and the heavy rain and severe weather in some areas is now centered north of the Great Lakes… You may have heard reports that the Polar Vortex is going to drop southward next week. Computer models indicate that a return to below normal temperatures is likely by later in the week. There may be another round (or two) of snow in parts of the Northeast and possibly the Northern Mid-Atlantic States. It’s way too early for any details on the potential storms but I think that most meteorologists will agree that our spell of mild weather will be coming to an end. So, enjoy this weekend and get outdoors! As I said in my earlier posts, late February and March are very changeable with large swings in temperatures. It can also be a very windy time of year due to the strength of the weather systems and also the increasing sun angle, which increases atmospheric instability during the day…. California may be picking up some much needed rainfall this upcoming week and it may occur further south than the previous storms. That is very good news. However, it will only be a drop in the bucket as the drought there is severe. Time will be running out for them as their rainy season will be ending in about six weeks or so. Let’s hope they get several opportunities to put a dent in the incredible drought. No drought for us as our precipitation is running above normal this year so far. That’s it for now.
