INDICATIONS ARE THAT THE WEATHER PATTERN IS GOING TO CHANGE LATER IN THE WEEK… TEMPERATURES MAY BE ABOVE NORMAL FOR A CHANGE… AN INTENSIFYING LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL BRING US SOME RAIN ON SATURDAY (2/15)… SUNDAY WILL BE DRY AND CHILLY

Are you tired of the winter? Well, hang in there, because current indications are that things are about to change and possibly in a big way. That’s not to say that we’re going to see an early spring. It just means that the weather pattern is finally going to change so that we are not seeing repeated blasts of cold air into the Mid-Atlantic states with storms in between bringing rain and sometimes snow. The upper-level wind pattern has been highly amplified bringing Arctic air masses south into the nation. The large trough over Eastern North America has caused unprecedented storminess over the Eastern third of the nation. We have another storm system sliding east that will intensify rapidly as it moves northeastward away from our region. Rain is expected to develop this morning. Winds will pick up later on as the storm begins to ramp up. It is expected to bring near blizzard conditions to parts of New England. Bombogenesis is expected to occur with this system. (See my Weather Fact on Bombogenesis). Sunday looks like a decent day for mid-February here in Hampton Roads but it will be on the chilly side. As next week progresses the upper-level wind pattern should bring us milderĀ temperatures but there is still some uncertainty about the specific details.
