AN ARCTIC BLAST EARLY NEXT WEEK WILL BRING THE COLDEST TEMPERATURES IN YEARS TO PARTS OF THE NATION INCLUDING HAMPTON ROADS… HIGH PRESSURE WILL BE MOVING OFFSHORE TODAY (SATURDAY) BRINGING SUNNY SKIES… ON SUNDAY, WE WILL WARM UP WITH MORE CLOUDS AND POSSIBLE SHOWERS

The intense low pressure system that caused the rain here in Hampton Roads on Thursday and the blizzard in parts of the Northeast is gone and high pressure moved into the region making for a sunny Saturday with moderating temperatures. Warmer air should move in on Sunday as the high moves offshore. A rather complex low pressure system may bring some light rain or showers to our area on Sunday. Enjoy the mild weather on Sunday while it lasts because an Arctic air mass is on its way and will bring potentially some of the coldest temperatures that we’ve seen in years. The strong cold front will cross the area on Monday accompanied by a period of wet weather. Then, the winds will pick up later Monday and the temperatures will take a plunge. Low temperatures in the teens Monday and Tuesday nights  should be common throughout the region. This may be cold enough in some homes and buildings to cause pipes to freeze so you should take the necessary precautions. Temperatures will moderate during the mid-week period. That’s it for now. Enjoy your weekend!
