IN THE WAKE OF TROPICAL STORM ANDREA, A WEAK DISTURBANCE MAY BRING A FEW SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS TO THE REGION… THE WEEKEND SHOULD BE DECENT OVERALL DESPITE THE CHANCE OF A SHOWER OR STORM

As the heavy rain from Post Tropical Storm Andrea heads into the Canadian Maritimes, a weak disturbance in its wake combined with a frontal boundary may bring a shower or thunderstorm to parts of Hampton Roads today. Severe weather isn’t expected but a few of the storms could be on the strong side. Rainfall totals from the tropical storm varied across Southeast Virginia. The interaction between the very moist tropical flow of air from the southeast running up against a frontal boundary located roughly along I-95 caused very heavy rain amounts just to the west of Hampton Roads. About an inch of rain fell in my Virginia Beach neighborhood. As the storm moved northeastward, flooding rains occurred in the NYC metro area. and in parts of New England.¬†Other areas of the Northern Mid-Atlantic States and Northeast reported flooding. Wind wasn’t a huge problem with this storm as expected. The weekend shouldn’t be that bad with high temperatures in the low to mid 80’s and just a chance of a shower or storm. Rain chances will remain with us into early next week but any showers or storms should be isolated or scattered for the most part… The tropical Atlantic is quiet for now.
