THE HEAT CONTINUES BUT THE WEEKEND SHOULD BE A LITTLE COOLER… TROPICAL STORM CHRIS SHOULD WEAKEN OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS… FORECASTERS ARE KEEPING THEIR EYES ON AN AREA OF DISTURBED WEATHER IN THE WESTERN CARIBBEAN SEA AND EASTERN GULF OF MEXICO

Thursday will be another hot day across Hampton Roads as southwesterly winds pump up the heat and humidity. This heat wave will not last that long as a cold front will be moving into the region late Friday and Saturday. The front will slow down when it reaches our area but it should still have enough of a push behind it to lower our temperatures over the weekend. The front should trigger some showers and thunderstorms Friday afternoon through Saturday but it is not certain how extensive the coverage and intensity of the precipitation will be. We could use the rain as the last time we had significant rain here in Virginia Beach was on June 1st. Only minor amounts fell on June 4th… Tropical Storm Chris which formed well east of the U.S. is continuing to move east-northeast. It is expected to weaken and meander out in the central North Atlantic. Forecasters are watching an area of disturbed weather in the Western Caribbean Sea and Eastern Gulf of Mexico. This system may bring heavy rainfall to Florida. That’s it for now. Be careful if you are working or exercising outside and make sure you drink plenty of water. I’ll have an update on Saturday.
