HIGH PRESSURE IS IN CONTROL ON SATURDAY BRINGING PLENTY OF SUNSHINE… A FRONTAL SYSTEM WILL BE APPROACHING SUNDAY AND MONDAY BRINGING WITH IT AN INCREASED CHANCE OF SHOWERS/THUNDERSTORMS

First, I wanted to begin my post with the total rainfall from the storm system that moved through on Wednesday, May 9th. Well over two inches of rain fell in many areas and my backyard rain gauge had nearly three inches in it when all was said and done. This storm brought a very beneficial rain to most of our region as it was a very widespread system. What also was good about it was that there was no real severe weather associated with it and there wasn’t much thunder and lightning in most areas… Well, there is another potential for a major rainmaker here in Hampton Roads on the way, but we should be okay for this weekend. High pressure will be slowly moving offshore and the timing couldn’t be better for those with outdoor plans this Mother’s Day weekend. Saturday will feature lots of sunshine and pleasant temperatures and humidity levels. Clouds slowly move in on Sunday ahead of the approaching frontal system. There is some model disagreement how this system will evolve but I think we have a fairly good chance of significant rainfall in some areas Monday through Tuesday. The combination of a very moist southerly flow out ahead of the front and the system and the lift associated with the developing low pressure should be enough to bring heavy rainfall to parts of the region. I’ll have more details on this system in my Sunday morning post. Temperatures should be in the upper 70’s to near 80 through the weekend. Thanks for reading and have a great day!
