GET READY FOR A HUGE DROP IN TEMPERATURES, HIGH WINDS, AND MAYBE EVEN A LITTLE SNOW IN SOME AREAS… TEMPERATURES MODERATE QUICKLY EARLY NEXT WEEK

A strong cold front is going to move through Hampton Roads bringing cold and blustery weather on Sunday. Temperatures probably won’t make it out of the 30’s and the winds are going to make it feel much colder. There may even be a little snow as the front moves through late Saturday night or early Sunday. At this time, it doesn’t look like we will see much snow in Hampton Roads. Initially, any snow that falls will melt but on the grassy surfaces, vehicles, roofs, etc, some minor accumulation is possible. Winds are going to be quite strong on Sunday as low pressure intensifies well off the east coast… Note that the rain that was predicted for our region last night did not materialize here in Virginia Beach. It appears that most of the significant rain passed by to our south and east. We were supposed to get around a half inch of rain.  Had that southern stream system phased with the system that is going to move through tonight, some areas of the East would be dealing with a major snowstorm. But, that did not happen which is just a continuation of this very uneventful winter season. You wonder whether things will change bringing more snow and cold to the eastern states. There is still no real sign of that happening. Meanwhile, parts of Eastern Europe and Russia are experiencing a nasty winter with snow falling in places that normally don’t get a lot of snow and it has been brutally cold at times. Time will be running out on winter as the amount of sunshine is increasing both in intensity and duration every day. However, we all know that late February and early March can still bring some severe winter weather. It will be interesting to see if the weather pattern will change in time before spring arrives. That’s it for now. Have a great day.
