THE HEAT AND HUMIDITY CONTINUE… CONDITIONS SHOULD IMPROVE SOMEWHAT BY MID-WEEK BUT THINGS MAY HEAT BACK UP BY THE END OF THE WEEK

Saturday was another brutally hot and humid day. Temperatures soared past the century mark again. During the afternoon an isolated thunderstorm popped up over northern VA Beach and although my neighborhood did not receive any rain from this storm, we did benefit from the cooling effect of the downdrafts associated with the storm and the cloud cover. Temperatures dropped rather abruptly from over 100 to the mid 80’s. Another cluster of storms developed to my west during the evening, but again, no significant rain fell in my neighborhood. The lightning to my northwest was quite impressive. We have another chance of a shower or storm today (Sunday), but most likely, not everyone will see rain. Temperatures are expected to be slightly lower today, but it will still be very hot and humid. On Monday, we may see a slightly better chance of showers and thunderstorms as a cold front begins to approach the area. It will still be hot and humid but forecasters are saying that Monday should be slightly cooler than today. So the trend seems to be that we will see slightly improving conditions but it will still be very uncomfortable and you should take precautions to guard against heat related illnesses. A break in the intense heat and humidity is expected by mid-week but it may not last. Temperatures are expected to be on the rise again by late in the week.

The tropical Atlantic is basically quiet. We are just days away from the time of year when hurricane season normally begins to ramp up so make sure you have a plan should a tropical cyclone threaten the area.

Thanks for reading and have a great day!
