AFTER A BRIEF BREAK IN THE INTENSE HEAT, WE SHOULD SEE A RETURN TO VERY WARM CONDITIONS BY MID-WEEK… SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ARE POSSIBLE ON SUNDAY BUT WE SHOULD SEE PLENTY OF SUNSHINE… A SHOWER OR STORM IS POSSIBLE ON MONDAY AND TUESDAY BUT THEY SHOULD BE FEW AND FAR BETWEEN

Saturday was a very uncomfortable day across Hampton Roads. The combination of high temperatures in the mid-nineties, moderate to high humidity, and light winds made it feel very hot and steamy Saturday afternoon. There were a few isolated showers and thunderstorms during the evening hours but most areas missed out. I just received a very brief downpour Saturday evening that only brought a trace of rainfall to my neighborhood. What about our ongoing drought? Well, last weekend about an inch of rainfall fell in my backyard which was needed desperately. This past Friday (June 17th), I picked up about a quarter of an inch of rain from storms that moved through early in the morning. So, although we are still way below normal, at least we did receive some much needed moisture. There is a chance of showers and thunderstorms today (Sunday) as disturbances move across the Mid-Atlantic States and temperatures should peak out a little cooler than Saturday’s numbers. A weak front is expected to move through switching our winds to a more onshore direction and then it will stall just south of the region. The break in the intense heat won’t last, however. High temperatures should be back in the 90’s as we head towards the middle of the week. Although the chance of rain will be lower Monday and Tuesday, there is still a chance of a shower/storm each day. Thanks for reading and have a great day.
