FINALLY, THE RAIN HAS COME TO MY NEIGHBORHOOD… THE HEAT RETURNS LATER IN THE WEEK

As I am writing this, I hear the pitter-patter of rain on my skylight and what a sweet sound that is.  It’s been a long time since my neighborhood has had significant rain. A weak low pressure system moving through the Mid-Atlantic States is bringing the wet weather to much of the Hampton Roads area. The rain should move away later this morning and we should see a break in the action this afternoon. However, later today, there may be an isolated shower/storm this afternoon and evening as a cold front moves through but forecasters don’t expect the activity this afternoon to be as widespread as it is this morning. High pressure builds in on Monday and we may see an isolated shower or storm in spots but I doubt there will be much activity. As it appears now, most of this upcoming week will be dry with slowly increasing temperatures. The next chance of rain will probably on Friday or Saturday…. This rain will not end the drought and I’m not sure if the areas that need the rain the most (Southern VA Beach and points south into NC) will receive that much rainfall today. The precipitation deficit at Norfolk Int’l Airport is almost seven (7) inches for the year. In areas of VA Beach (including my neighborhood) and parts of northeastern N.C., the deficit is significantly higher.  Farmers are suffering and some of their crops are in jeopardy. I just checked my rain gauge and as of 8:15 AM, I picked up about a third of an inch. That’s all for now. Thanks for reading and have a great day.
