THANKSGIVING DAY LOOKS NICE OVERALL… BLACK FRIDAY COULD BE A BIT WET, BUT IT WILL BE MILD EARLY IN THE DAY WITH TEMPERATURES FALLING LATER ON… COLDER AIR RETURNS FOR THE WEEKEND

Happy Thanksgiving! It should be a great day for anyone who still has to travel today. No weather related issues will impact your travel in Hampton Roads. However, up to our north and west, it may be a different story as some rain is expected. High pressure is going to keep us dry for the most part, but a sprinkle can’t be ruled out. Warmer air will surge in tonight out ahead of a cold front. Friday should start out okay but there will be an increasing chance of showers as the cold front draws closer. Rainfall amounts aren’t expected to be significant, however. Behind the cold front, winds will turn to the NW and will usher in much cooler air for Saturday and Sunday. Dry conditions should prevail over the weekend. Speaking of dry, do you know that it has been three weeks since we’ve had significant rain? With the La Nina in the Pacific, this is a typical scenario, where low pressure systems track to our north and west at this time of year. The ridge over the Southeast might break down temporarily allowing troughiness to produce higher rain chances over the next several weeks, but we’ll have to wait and see if that actually happens. In the extended forecast, rain chances increase by mid-week.
