HEAT AND HUMIDITY RETURN TO HAMPTON ROADS… WILL THERE BE ANY THUNDERSTORMS THIS WEEKEND?

High pressure moving offshore will produce a southerly flow which will bring in increasing humidity levels along with very warm (and sometimes hot) conditions. The humidity will be slow to build so Saturday shouldn’t be too oppresive.  However, you’ll probably notice the difference when you walk outside on Sunday when the dew points are expected to be quite high. With all the heat and humidity around, you’re probably wondering whether there will be thunderstorms. As has been the case in recent weeks, there just isn’t an obvoius trigger that will cause organized convection this weekend. That’s not to say that we will not have storms, it’s just that forecasters don’t know about the coverage. They’ve capped the rain chances at around 30% for Sunday. We could use a good soaking so I’m hoping that we see some activity on Sunday. A cold front is expected to move through early next week bringing some relief.
