A COLD FRONT RAPIDLY MOVES THROUGH THE MID-ATLANTIC STATES ON SATURDAY… TEMPERATURES WILL BE MUCH COOLER ON MOTHER’S DAY… WE COULD USE SOME RAIN BUT MOTHER NATURE WON’T COOPERATE THIS WEEKEND

A cold front will move through the region this afternoon bringing much cooler temperatures to Hampton Roads starting tomorrow and lasting through mid-week. Winds will be an issue today (Saturday) as gusts could reach 40 MPH, which is quite strong for early May. The culprit is a low pressure area that will be moving by to our north this weekend. What about rain chances with the cold front? Conditions won’t be that favorable for significant widespread rainfall. The highest chances will be over SE VA and NE NC, but even there, the chance really isn’t that high. That’s unfortunate since we could really use the rain. So many folks have planted new bushes, trees, grass, etc over the past few weeks that need a good watering. Sunday will be much cooler and still breezy. Sunshine will be abundant, though. The next chance of rain won’t come until later Tuesday night at the earliest and right now, it’s not a significant chance. As we move through spring, average humidity levels will rise and with that will come a higher chance of showers and thunderstorms. In the meantime, I would water whatever new plants/trees that you have planted this spring. When it comes to rainfall, the feast or famine  nature of weather amazes me. Remember how much rain we had during the fall and winter months? And look at the flooding in Nashville, TN caused by over a foot of rain. and, we can’t even muster up a quarter of an inch lately. I’ll have an update Sunday morning.
