THE ACTIVE WEATHER PATTERN CONTINUES AS A FRONTAL SYSTEM BRINGS RAIN TO HAMPTON ROADS TUESDAY NIGHT… TEMPERATURES RISE OVERNIGHT AND WEDNESDAY WILL BE QUITE MILD… COLDER WEATHER MOVES BACK IN ON THURSDAY

A major storm system moving northeastward out of the Southwestern states will quickly move towards the Great Lakes. A cold front associated with that system will approach our region on Wednesday. Meanwhile, a surge of moisture will move northeastward out ahead of the cold front bringing a good chance of rain to Hampton Roads beginning Tuesday night and lasting into Wednesday. Warm air will overspread the area ahead of the cold front on Wednesday making for a very mild day for mid-December. The cold front will sweep off the coast later Wednesday which will make for a much cooler Thursday. Much colder air may move into our neck of the woods over the weekend making for an interesting forecast. A low pressure area is expeected to affect our region on Saturday and with temperatures very chilly here locally, there is a chance of some frozen precipitation somewhere in VA. Exactly where the rain/snow line will be is not certain right now, so stay tuned. Backing up to today (Tuesday), the intense low pressure area moving towards the Northern Plains will cause blizzard conditions for some areas. Severe weather may break out across the South.
