WHEN WILL THE UNSETTLED WEATHER PATTERN END?… YOU CAN TURN YOUR AIR CONDITIONERS OFF ON MONDAY

It’s been quite a week, hasn’t it? There were several days with rain, although there were no real washouts. The front that just wouldn’t go away finally did but then another one is approaching which re-introduced the threat of showers and thunderstorms on Friday night. Early Saturday morning, a cluster of thunderstorms moved through Hampton Roads dropping heavy rain in some areas. I picked up just under an inch of rain in my backyard. Forecast models had indicated that the storms would go north of us or dissipate before reaching our area, but they were wrong. Those storms got energized as they moved through even prompting severe thunderstorm warnings. Now, what about Saturday? With a cold front set to move through tonight and a warm, humid unstable flow ahead of it, forecasters believe that storms will pop again during the peak heating of the day on Saturday. However, the NWS only gives the chance of actually receiving a storm at 20%. My experience with situations like these is that many times after a stormy night or early morning, the afternoon storms just don’t materialize. Could today be an exception? We’ll see. If any storms do develop this afternoon, they could be quite strong… even severe so please be alert to changing conditions. The front moves through Saturday night and Sunday should be a cooler day with some clouds and maybe even a shower. Then, the temperatures really drop on Monday and as the headline states, you could turn your air conditioners off as temps probably won’t reach 70.  The cool weather should hold for a few days before inching back up later in the week. I’ll have an update on Sunday morning.
