THE STRONG WINDS EASE ON THURSDAY… COLDER AIR MOVES IN ON FRIDAY… TEMPERATURES REBOUND AGAIN OVER THE WEEKEND ONLY TO DROP NEXT WEEK

The strong winds on Wednesday were caused by a steep pressure gradient between a deep low pressure area over the northeastern states and a high to the southwest. The winds will subside a bit on Thursday and on Friday, temperatures will drop somewhat. On Saturday, another frontal system is expected to bring showers and slightly milder temperatures. Computer models continue to hint that a major arctic outbreak is expected next week. It is possible that parts of the Mid-West and the Eastern Seaboard may see the coldest weather of the season thus far. The rain on Tuesday amounted to about a half inch in my backyard. On Wednesday, some parts of SE VA saw some heavy rain, but only for a brief period. My neighborhood of VA Beach did not see that much rain. So, we seem to be in a very active weather pattern which could get quite interesting next week. It should be cold enough for snow here in Hampton Roads so all we’ll need is a storm system to come our way. Will that happen? In my next update, I’ll investigate the chance of seeing the white stuff. Keep in mind that we haven’t had significant snow since Dec 2004.
