WOW, THREE DAYS IN A ROW OF HEAVY RAIN… SATURDAY IS ALMOST SUMMERLIKE… DON’T GET USED TO THE MILD TEMPERATURES AS THE BOTTOM FALLS OUT EARLY NEXT WEEK

As the headline states, it is quite amazing that Hampton Roads has had three days in a row with heavy rain being reported in some parts of the area. I cannot remember the last time this has occurred. In my backyard, I picked up 1.50 inches on Thursday, and 1.75 inches of rain fell Friday and Saturday morning. There was even a tornado watch in effect early Saturday morning for some areas. A deadly tornado hit NC just east of Raleigh displaying how much energy this system has. According to forecasters, it may not be over yet as the cold front is still to our west. Also, dew points are still relatively high especially for this time of year. How much rain falls this afternoon is questionable so it will be interesting if this cold front can muster up enough instability to bring us another round of heavy rain. Once the cold front moves through the area later today or this evening, rain chances will drop significantly. We may not see signicant rainfall for quite a while after this system is off the coast. The big story next week is the drop in temperatures as a cold air mass moves into the Eastern States. A trough will be well established in Eastern North America which will maintain a colder than normal regime. I will have an update on Sunday.
